Working with people of Determination

Volunteering with special needs families in Dubai and working at the Special Olympics 2019 in Abu Dhabi are experiences I deeply cherish. These opportunities have highlighted the importance of inclusion in our society. Understanding that people of determination are unique, and recognizing their desire for independence and inclusion, has been both an eye-opening and humbling experience.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS 2019 – Turquoise Boutique Studio

At the Special Olympics 2019, I began my workshop guide journey with Turquoise Boutique Studio. This is a large string art wall installation, where attendees could add a string or two to create a beautiful collaborative piece of wall art.

I hosted the Terrarium Jars activation at the Special Olympics 2019, where participants of determination from all over the world created their own unique terrarium jars to take back to their homes. This is with the Indian Team.
Here is Ahmed, who loved the workshop so much that he promised me he would take care of his succulent like his baby.

SEDRA FOUNDATION
During COVID, I had the privilege of hosting a baking workshop via Zoom for the students at the Sedra Foundation in Abu Dhabi. It was an amazing opportunity where we made delicious Tex-Mex chicken enchiladas. I sent the list of ingredients to the participants, and we baked a delightful tray of chicken enchiladas together for our families. They loved the food so much that they reached out to me to host another bake-along. We scheduled it, but unfortunately, by the time the date approached, I got COVID and was admitted to a field hospital.

I hope to build on this experience and work with more children and people of determination, as it is something that brings me immense joy.
